The Curated Classic Coat Review
Colder weather is upon us and that means we are either getting out our coats or looking to buy a new coat. I’ve been looking for a classic camel coat for the past several years now, yet haven’t found the perfect one. They were either too expensive, not enough wool in the wool blends (I like at least 70% wool for warmth), or not luxe looking enough. Let’s be honest- I was looking for the MaxMara camel coat at a much more affordable price. Once I tried The Curated classic coat, I knew this was the one. While The Curated as a few different styles, this post is focusing on the classic coat!
Let’s start off with the Classic coat. The Curated has several different coat options, each on with a unique style. I decided to try the Classic coat first because well, it’s a classic! This is a true to size style with a wrap design that can be worn belted or left open for a more casual look. I love the quality of the design with its patch pockets and 70% merino wool/30% cashmere blend. I absolutely love the extra cashmere added to this coat. It gives a softer and more luxurious feel to it. A true timeless style! For comparison, most higher quality department store wool blend coats only contain 10% cashmere. And lower end brands do not contain any.
This coat also has belt loops to keep the wool tie in place. Some earlier versions of the coats did not have belt loops but rest assured they do now! This is an important detail for me since I sometimes like to wear my coats open.
The Curated Coat Review- Sizing:
All of The Curated coats are made to be worn slightly oversized. The Classic coat will fit the most true to size (and not as oversized as the others). I’m wearing a size XXS which is equivalent to a US 0 or 2, and a EU 34. The overall look is polished and chic. If you prefer a more oversized look, you may want to size up, or try the London coat that is designed with more room overall. In addition to being oversized, the London coat is also a bit longer. For a “borrowed from the boys” look, try the Boyfriend coat which has even slightly more room than the London coat, but with the same patch pocket style as the Classic coat. Being petite, (I’m 5’2″), the Classic coat is the best option for me as the length is the shortest out of the three.
If you have any doubts or are still unsure of your size, each product page has its own size chart. This is extremely helpful as it has the chest, waist, sleeve, and length measurements in centimeters (just Google a cm to inch calculator to help!)
Sustainable Luxury and Small Batch
The focus at The Curated is on longevity and key investments pieces. You will not find fast trends here. Each piece offered is timeless in design, meaning that you can wear these year after year, and still be stylish. Consider this your foundation for building a capsule wardrobe of go-to pieces. She also designs sweaters and the most gorgeous leather bags.
By producing in small batches, and taking pre-orders, overproduction is limited. I have seen a trend in this last year or 2 from brands taking preorders. This is a smart way for them to judge the demand for products, and not overproduce and waste. This is what the slow fashion movement is all about. Do not be worried if you see your favorite coat is on pre-order. It truly may be the way you can get it!
In addition, The Curated uses left over (dead stock) fabric for limited edition collections. I love this thoughtful approach. It’s much like an interior designers taking left over fabric from drapes and making pillows. Waste not!
Attainable and Honest Pricing
Prices are set at a third of standard retail. That means, more savings for you. You will likely not find discount codes, as in order to keep prices affordable, there are no extra mark-ups. A goal of The Curated is for you to be able to afford luxury and enjoy it. Founder Nicola Harlem is continuing her vision for the brand by setting honest prices with high-quality fabrics.
Women Owned Brand
I love to read about a brand’s story and mission. The Curated is founded by Nicola Harlem who attributes the success of her brand to women world-wide. She is not a stand alone woman, but a women who embraces the dedication and engagement of her customers. And truly gives us all credit for her brand. She could say she is “woman founded”, but instead says “women founded”. I love that!
