8 Nautical Outfits For Women
Today I’m sharing 8 nautical outfits for women. Traditionally, nautical inspired looks consist of variations of red, white, and blue – mostly stripes. Here I’m adding some chic alternatives for a modern coastal look. These outfits are perfect for your elevated outdoor adventures. Here are 8 classy nautical outfits for women inspired by the sea!
8 Nautical Outfits For Women
The White Cotton Dress
A classic white dress should be in everyone’s closet! The white midi dress is a go-with-anything style. So simple yet so extraordinary, a white dress is the epitome of summer chic. I’m going a little non-traditional with this cotton dress by Staud (similar white dress). Often when you think of nautical style, navy and white stripes, red and white prints, and anchors come to mind. This is a more quiet and modern take on the traditional nautical look. A more elegant nod to the classic style.
The key to making this look nautical is the straw accessories. Nautical outfits are great for summertime, especially when paired with a straw hat. By adding this straw hat to the white dress, it adds that summertime feeling. The off-the-shoulder style makes this look a great transition to evenings or special occasion looks (I also love this white floral dress). This Staud dress runs true to size. I am wearing a size 0.
The Dr. Bag by MME.Mink also nods to voyages taken by sea. Perfect for holding your essentials plus a sweater for boarding a boat for an evening sail, or dining by the water. You can choose your own ribbon color for the handle. I chose the cornflower blue to soften the nautical look.
Embroidered White Dress
This embroidered white mini dress has the perfect pops of blue and red to make this very nautical. It’s the understated nautical vibes that I love best about this look. And who can resist these puff sleeves? To keep the look casual and beachy, I’m wearing flat gold wrap sandals which run true to size, and a ruffle raffia tote. I like to think of this as nautical but Cote d’Azur style!
Navy and White Gingham Dress
Navy and white stripes are nautical outfit staples. Try mixing it up with gingham or another fun blue and red print! I love this mini style gingham dress (I also love this more casual and relaxed style red dress and this blue tank dress) with the pops of colorful flowers. It is an unexpected twist to regular gingham, and has all the nautical vibes going on. This dress is perfect for outdoor cocktails or Al fresco dining.
Cotton is a great fabric for summer. It is so breathable and perfect for the summer heat. I love this shorter length of this cotton dress with the puff sleeves. It’s a great contrast that is modern yet so timeless. Cara Cara always does such a great job with their prints. I think the addition of the flowers really makes this a special dress. I love this one paired with flat sandals to off-set the shorter length. But feel free to wear this block heels as well for a dressier look.
Every nautical look needs a pair of white sunglasses to top it off! Mine are a few years old from Oliver Peoples, but I have and love this pair as well.
Nautical Outfits For Women: The Staud Wells Dress
Ships Ahoy! The Wells dress is a classic that comes back year after year. It’s such a timeless style with the fit and flare cut. This year I love the newest print which has me thinking of land and sea. This toile pattern depicts blue and tan palms. Perfect for your beach or ocean adventures. This would be a great dress to wear to a beach wedding, or a sunset dinner by the dock. if you prefer a little more red with your nautical look, this red midi dress has a similar style and is gorgeous!
Here I’ve paired this with my MME.Mink bag. This bag holds a ton and is great for carrying your extra summer essentials. To give the white in the dress some more pop, I’ve paired this nautical look with my white block heel sandals. This is the 60mm heel height by Sarah Flint (heel heights for this shoe range from 30mm, 60mm, and 90mm). Known for comfort and style, this is your go-to shoe to finish all of your nautical outfits. White shoes are a must!
Blue Plaid Linen Dress
I love a good linen dress. Linen is always such a comfortable fabric to wear. It’s a little lighter than cotton so it’s great for the summer heat. This plaid midi dress has all the nautical but preppy vibes going on. It’s your perfect summer picnic or BBQ outfit. The length makes it easy to sit on a blanket if you are doing a more casual affair.
By adding a straw bag and white sunglasses, you can make your outfits appear more nautical. When choosing a plaid or a striped dress, just make sure it’s blue and white, or red and white to keep with the nautical theme. I even love this blue, white, and pink dress!
Nautical Outfits For Women: Beach Cover-up
A little more beach chic than nautical, but still a summer must! I’m channeling the coastal glam aesthetic with this blue and white chinoiserie sarong by Mestiza New York. The Isla sarong is made from cotton voile and is machine washable. It’s the perfect addition to your beach or pool outfit. You can even wear this on chilly nights or when boating, over your shoulders as a wrap.
The blue and white palette gives off a calm summer feeling. Lazy summers by the sea, warm pool days, and chic summer nights call for a sarong. I chose a white swimsuit to keep the look fresh, however any solid or striped swimsuit would be perfect. You can take 15% off at Mestiza NY with code TARA15.
Nautical Fashion Style: Blue and White Striped Dress
If you’ve read my previous posts, you will recognize this striped dress (similar stripe dress here). This has been a summer staple. The weather has been a little cooler this year and this dress checks all the boxes. It’s UV+ protected fabric keeps your skin protected from the sun’s harmful rays. The 3/4 length sleeves gives you a little coverage form the sun and the wind, and it’s striped so it has a coastal chic vibe.
There are many great striped dresses to choose from. This is the most popular style of nautical outfits for women. I personally love stripes all year around. Here are some of my favorite striped dresses available now:
Nautical Stripe Sweater Outfit
You can’t go wrong with a striped sweater and jeans. Especially when the weather is chilly. A navy and white striped sweater is an easy way to incorporate a nautical look. Depending on the temperature, a cotton stripe sweater or a wool stripe sweater will keep you warm and sail worthy. Pair this with jeans or navy chino’s for a perfectly casual look.
I hope I have inspired your inner coastal glam! Let me know which outfit is your favorite.
