Margaux Shoes Review: Chic and Comfortable Style

I thought it was time for a full Margaux shoes review. Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a few pairs — not intentionally, but because I constantly reach for them. They’re some of the most comfortable shoes in my closet, and they work with the way I actually dress day to day.

Shoes and bags have always been my favorite accessories, and Margaux is one of the few brands I return to again and again. Especially for chic, wearable flats. These are the shoes I wear for errands, travel, dinners out, and everyday life, not just the ones that look good online.

In this Margaux shoes review, I’m sharing the styles I personally own, how they fit, and when I reach for each pair. If you’re deciding whether Margaux shoes are worth it, or trying to choose the right style for your lifestyle, this guide will help you narrow it down.

Margaux Shoes Review

What Makes Margaux Shoes So Good?

First is style. I don’t care how comfortable a pair of shoes is, it must be stylish first. Margaux shoes have a timeless appeal but are made for the modern woman. The feminine details make this collection almost look dainty but you will be surprised once you try  pair on. They have both looks and function.

The second reason Margaux shoes are so good is that they are so comfortable! I am a firm believer in comfortable shoes. No matter how pretty shoes are, if they are not comfortable, I cannot wear them. I love that they offer medium, narrow, and wide widths. Plus their shoes size range is one of the best and biggest. Sizes range from 33 to 45. That’s incredible really.

The third reason to love Margaux shoes is their versatility. I don’t really think of Margaux as a heel brand. While they do offer heels, they have a lot more “everyday” shoe styles like ballet flats, loafers, and Mary Janes. They also have amazing boots!

Who Margaux Shoes Are Best For

Margaux is a great fit if you value comfort but still want your shoes to feel polished. If you walk a lot, prefer flats or low heels, or want shoes that work across multiple outfits rather than just one occasion, this brand really shines.

I especially recommend Margaux if you struggle with fit as their range of sizes and widths makes a noticeable difference. If you prefer very trend-driven styles or ultra-minimal pricing, Margaux may feel like an investment. But if cost-per-wear matters to you, these are shoes you’ll genuinely use.

Who is Margaux?

Co-founders Sarah and Alexa met while waiting for a cab at college. They fast became best friends. After graduation they realized that women were constantly choosing between comfort and style. They set out to make the shoe brand that blends both- Margaux.

The name Margaux actually came from the desire to be relatable to any and every woman. She is the ideal Margaux customer who wants both comfort and style and will not compromise for less. Founders Sarah and Alex also loved the play on words Marg-GO. It’s becomes their mantra- “Gaux Girls” and “Girls on the Gaux”. Let’s face it, we women are busy and forever on the go.

Where are Margaux Shoes Made?

All Margaux shoes are designed in New York, and hand-made in Spain by a family-owned factory. The region is known for shoe making and has been with the brand since day one.

Margaux Shoe Sizing

Overall, the brand fits pretty true to size. If you find yourself in-between sizes like me (I’m generally a 7 or 7.5 depending on the brand and shoe style), here are my recommendations:

  • Boots and sandals- if in-between sizes, size up. I wear 7.5 in these shoe styles.
  • All the flat shoes- the ballet flats, Demi Janes, and the Fonteyn (their chic square toe flat) fit true to size (if in-between, size down). I wear size 7.

Margaux offers medium, narrow, and wide widths in most of their shoes to give you the perfect fit. They are one of the few shoe brands to do so, and I really appreciate that level of detail.

Margaux Ballet Flats Review

The Demi Ballet Flats

The Demi is your classic French-girl chic ballet flats. They have a rounded toe with an adjustable cord bow. Did you ever wear ballet flats that slip off your heel? That doesn’t happen with the Demi. No pinching either. The wide selection of sizes and widths ensures you will find the right size.

I wear the medium width in size 37 and the toe box is just right (I generally wear a 37 or 37.5 in most shoes). Plus the Italian nappa leather is so soft and smooth, it’s like butter. The 5mm of plush foam padding inside really makes these ballet flats stand apart from others.

The color options are so good as well. Lots of classic color options like black nappa, burgundy, two-tone (Chanel inspired ballet flats), patent leather colors, and even leopard. They have both classic and seasonal colors. These are great for wearing with jeans, skirts, and dresses. I love pairing my olive flats with my green trench coat, olive green pants, and olive bucket bag.

The Pointe Ballet Flats

Margaux Pointe Ballet Flats review

The Pointe is your pointed toe version of the classic ballet flats. This gives you a little bit of an elongated toe look which looks great styled with wide-leg jeans. I’m wearing these wide leg jeans. Don’t be worried about the pointed toe. I know some pointed toe shoes can scrunch your toes. These do not. It’s just tapered enough to create a refined look.

I have these in size 37.5 medium width (the difference between the 37 and 37.5 is so minor, I opted for more room). If you are familiar with these popular pointed toe ballet flats (which are stunning by the way!), the Margaux Pointe ballet flats have a wider toe box. So you have more room. I like wearing the pointed toe ballet flats when I want a bit of a dressier vibe over the classic round toe flats.

Margaux Mary Jane Shoes Review

The Demi Jane

If ballet flats feel a little too unsupportive for you, Mary Janes are a great alternative. The strap makes a noticeable difference, especially if you’re walking a lot or wearing them for long days.

The Margaux Demi Jane has a classic, feminine shape with an adjustable strap that helps get the fit just right. They’re made from soft Italian nappa leather, so the strap doesn’t feel stiff or uncomfortable on the foot.

What really stands out to me is the cushioning. The 5mm foam padding inside makes these genuinely comfortable to wear all day. I never feel like I’m walking directly on the ground. I wear mine with straight-leg jeans, dresses, and more polished outfits, and they always feel appropriate.

I take my usual Margaux size (37 medium). If you’re between sizes, I’d recommend sizing down. They soften even more with wear, and I’ve ended up buying them in multiple colors because I reach for them so often.

Margaux Woven Shoes

Woven shoes are my go-to for spring and summer, and I often wear them well into early fall. The texture is the perfect way to add interest to an outfit in a subtle way. I also love that they’re breathable. Perfect for warmer days when you want your toes covered but don’t want to feel stuck in a heavy shoe.

I have the woven Demi Jane in three colors — chocolate brown, ecru, and saddle — which honestly covers just about everything I need in a timeless capsule wardrobe. They work with denim, dresses, and easy everyday outfits without feeling seasonal in a limiting way.

These fit true to size, but if you’re between sizes, you can comfortably size up. The woven leather has a bit of give, which makes them forgiving and easy to wear. I reach for these constantly once the weather warms up.

Margaux Shoes: The Ada

The Ada is a chic update to the classic ballet flat. It features a 1.25” heel which is perfect for a subtle lift (especially with straight-leg jeans!), and a square toe (giving you plenty of toe room). It’s the best balance of timeless style with a modern twist. If you are looking for very comfortable and versatile shoes, these are it! The Ada can easily be dressed up or down, for work or weekend. And they are so classy.
I find them extremely comfortable too. I took a size 37.5 medium. This is their first style made with a luxe sacchetto construction, which gently hugs your feet for a secure fit. If you are in-between sizes, size down, otherwise take your true size.

Margaux Boots Review

The Downtown Boot

It’s not uptown, it’s downtown! The Downtown boot is a play on this effortless, western inspired boot. I have these in both the espresso calf and the black calf leather. Super comfortable and very on-trend with the pointed toe. If you know me, you know I’m not one to follow trends. I prefer a timeless and elegant wardrobe. I’m a little more open when it comes to shoes. I think that shoes can really change the entire vibe of an outfit. I do like to update my shoes if a style is worth it. And these boots are worth it.

The 2.5 inch stacked heel is the perfect height for looking chic while still being comfortable. I know everyone will have a different experience, but I have not had to break in any of my Margaux shoes. They have all been comfortable from the start. It’s one of the reasons I’m a repeat customer. The pointed toe is wide enough to not constrict the toes. I’m super appreciative of Margaux for making wide enough toe boxes.

I generally wear thin to medium socks with all of my boots. Wearing these socks I still take my usual size 37.5 medium. I suggest taking your true size unless yo really like to wear thick socks. Then consider going up a half size.  You can wear these ankle boots with everything from dresses, skirts, jeans, and pants. Think of them as your new go-to this season.

Uptown Knee-high Boots

The newest boots from Margaux! The Uptown boots have the same pointed toe style as the Downtown ankle boots, but with a tall shaft. What I love about these is that they can lean casual or dressy depending on how you style them. The 2.5″ stacked heel is perfect height for all-day comfort.

On my 5’2″ frame, they come just under my kneecap. I took a size 7.5 to wear with socks and they fit great. If you are going to get one pair of knee-high boots, I highly recommend this pair.

West Chelsea Boots

The West Chelsea boots are my favorite casual boots to wear when the weather is less then ideal. These water resistant boots are so chic while still being really practical. I tend to wear them most with leggings or under wide-leg jeans.

If you are looking for a truly effortless pair of boots that you can wear in damp weather, you will love these! Go a half size up to wear with socks- mine are 7.5.

Margaux Sandals

Heeled Sandals: The City Sandals

Margaux city sandals shoes review

These really are city sandals, as the name implies. The 2.5 inch block heel gives you stability while walking. They actually don’t feel that high. They are the perfect heeled sandals for day to night walking. The ankle straps are wide so they do not cut into the skin. These are made with the same 5mm of plush foam padding as the other Margaux shoes.

Because of the chunky heel, I tend to wear the City Sandals when I want a casual chic look. They are definitely versatile enough for more relaxed outfits as well as dressier outfits. I own the Saddle Nappa leather color which goes with everything. I wear a size 7.5 medium- feel free to take a half size up if you are in-between sizes. These are the ones I reach for most.

Flat Sandals: The Wrap Sandals

The wrap sandals are your classic greek sandals. The leather straps wrap around the ankle. You can tie them in the front or back but for a clean look, I prefer them tied in the back. The straps add a nice detail to your warmer weather outfits. I love them in gold since gold shoes go with everything! These are actually Champagne which is a very pretty light gold color.

These also have the 5mm plush padding. As far as comfort goes, they are comfortable. However this style of shoes takes some getting used to if you are used to a more supportive shoe. The straps are really what holds these sandals onto your feet. At first you may feel like they will come off when you take a step. It’s a similar feeling to wearing flip flops. Take your true size- I prefer size 7.5 in this style.

Margaux Flat Sandals Review

If you’re looking for a comfortable and chic flat sandal to wear this summer, the Margaux flat sandals are what you need. I didn’t realize how much I would rely on these when I first got them. They literally go with everything, especially if you get them in this neutral saddle color.

The ankle strap gives you support, while the cushion insole makes these so wearable all day. I take these in a size, 7.5. A true closet gem!

Which Margaux Shoe Should You Start With?

If You’re New to Margaux, Start Here

  • For everyday wear: Demi Ballet Flat
  • If you want more support: Demi Jane
  • For spring and summer: Woven Demi Jane
  • For a little lift: Ada
  • For fall and winter: Downtown Boot

If I had to choose just one pair, I’d start with the Demi Ballet Flat or the Demi Jane. Both work across seasons and outfits and give you the best sense of what Margaux does best.

These are the styles I actually wear, walk in, and repurchase, and the ones I recommend when friends ask where to start.

Shop My Margaux Shoes Review

For size reference, I generally wear a size 37.5, with only a few brands where I take a 37 (like Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, and select Inez styles).

If you’re building a more intentional, timeless wardrobe, these shoes fit right into a classic French-inspired capsule. I break down the core pieces I rely on in my Timeless French Capsule Wardrobe Staples post.
