Sezane Coats I Own and Love

I’ve been wearing Sézane for years, and their coats and jackets are some of my favorite pieces from the brand. I own several styles, from tailored wool coats to lighter jackets, and in this Sezane coats review, I’m sharing how each one fits, what size I wear, and which styles work best on my 5’2″ frame.

I’ve actually been a customer of Sezane since the beginning, before the first store opened in the US. You can check out an early post inside the store here. A lot has changed since then, including easier and faster shipping, more sizes and styles, and more physical stores. If you have the opportunity to visit one of the Sezane stores, I highly recommend it. The interior design is so perfectly French!

The Best Sezane Coats I’ve Tried

I’ve owned quite a few Sezane coats and jackets over the years, but these are the timeless styles that stand out to me most.

Best overall: Johnson Coat
This is still my favorite Sezane coat. I own it in several colors and love the more tailored fit. It’s also one of the most versatile styles I own.

Best tailored: Terry Jacket
The shorter, more tailored cut works especially well on my 5’2″ frame. I reach for this one more than the Bobby because I personally prefer a more tailored fit.

Best relaxed jacket for petites: Robb Jacket
If you like a more relaxed fit, the cropped length makes the Robb much easier to wear on a petite frame. It has a subtle oversized shape without overwhelming my 5’2″ frame.

Best wrap coat: Mederick Coat
The Mederick has that classic wrap-coat look without feeling too long on my petite frame. I also love that you can adjust the fit with the belt.

Best trench coat: Scott Trench Coat
This is the most traditional trench coat in my Sezane collection. It’s a classic style that I wear during those in-between fall and spring temperatures.

Sezane Coat Sizing

I’m 5’2″ (157 cm), so you can see how each of these coat styles fits on a petite frame. I’ve found that many Sezane coats run a little oversized, so I tend to choose more tailored styles that don’t overwhelm my frame. I’ll include my size and any important fit notes with each coat below.

Sezane Johnson Coat Review

The Sezane Johnson coat is your classic tailored coat. The mid-length style is versatile enough for both casual and dressier occasions. It has a straight cut with double breasted buttons and is one of the slimmer-fitting Sezane coats. It’s made from a 75% wool blend and is lined. I wear it in a size 2.

I love the Johnson coat with a casual jeans and loafers outfit, for wearing to work, and for dressier occasions. It’s one of the most versatile and timeless Sezane coats I own. I actually own it in several colors! It’s safe to say it’s my favorite style.

James Coat

The Sezane James coat has a “borrowed from the boys” look. It has a large shawl collar, double-breasted buttons, and a slightly oversized fit. It’s great for contrasting more feminine outfits when you don’t want to look too girly. It’s made from 75% wool and is lined.

I love the James coat with more casual looks. Paired with jeans, it gives a casual and effortless vibe, but it’s also a great coat for the office. It’s versatile enough to wear with everything from jeans to business casual outfits. I wear a size 2. It is roomy but not overwhelmingly so.

If the James coat is not available, the Lucien coat is the closest alternative. It has the same peacoat style with the wide collar and  slightly oversized look.

Sezane Mederick Coat

The Mederick coat is your classic wrap coat. Think of classic MaxMara but more tailored. It is double sided 100% wool, so it is not lined. I’m wearing the Sand color in size 2. It looks slightly pink on the Sezane website, however in person it is more of an ivory color. I find the length works well and isn’t too long for my 5’2″ frame. There are no buttons on the Mederick coat, so you use the belt to adjust the fit.

I love wrap coats for their easy and elegant style. This type of coat is so versatile that you can really wear it with anything. I actually really love wearing them with super casual looks. You can often find me at the grocery store in winter wearing leggings, sneakers, a sweater, and topped off with a wrap coat. It instantly elevates any outfit.

Sezane Scott Trench Coat

For the in-between seasons and milder temperatures, the Scott Trench coat is a true classic. I love this one for crisp fall nights and cooler spring days. Made from 100% organic cotton, the Scott trench coat runs true to size. If you prefer a roomier fit, take the next size up. I’m wearing a size 0.

I always get lots of questions about the Scott trench coat. It’s a very popular style. It has some weight to it so it keeps you warm. I consider this your most traditional trench coat style. It has buttoned tabs at the shoulders and cuffs (much like a Burberry trench coat), and a belt. This is as timeless as you get with trench coats.

I love to style trench coats with classic ballet slippers for the ultimate in French chic. The great thing about trench coats is their versatility. You can wear them with so many different looks, for different occasions. A trench coat is a timeless French capsule wardrobe staple!

Sezane Bobby Jacket Review

The Bobby jacket is one of the Sezane jackets I get the most interest in whenever I share it. Think of it as the Clyde trench coat’s little cousin. It has the same oversized fit as the Clyde, but in a cropped silhouette, making it a great transitional jacket.

At  5’2″, I’ve always hesitated with the Clyde trench because of its longer, more oversized cut. But this Bobby jacket offers the perfect compromise by giving that same chic, relaxed look without overwhelming my petite frame.

Sezane Terry Jacket

The Terry jacket is another cropped Sezane jacket that works really well on my 5’2″ frame. It’s just a little shorter than the Bobby jacket, but it has a more tailored cut. The overall look is more classic than oversized. Mine is a wool blend and is noticeably thicker than the Bobby, which is a much lighter jacket. I wear the Terry in a size 2.

This is actually a jacket I reach for more often than the Bobby because I tend to prefer more tailored styles. It’s a great jacket to grab on your way out the door when you want to look pulled together without giving it much thought.

Sezane Robb Jacket

The Robb jacket sits right in the middle of the Bobby and the Terry. It’s not as tailored as the Terry, and it’s not as oversized as the Bobby. It does have a relaxed, subtle swing shape and beautiful drape. The suede version is silky soft, and right away I noticed the fresh suede scent.

I’m wearing a size 2, and at 5’2″, the cropped length is perfect for petites without feeling too short. The sleeves also run shorter than the Bobby, which is really designed to be worn with the sleeves cuffed.

The Robb is one of those jackets you can wear for everyday errands, and out to dinner at night. It’s very versatile and an easy way to make a simple jeans outfit feel more elevated.

Are Sezane Coats Worth It?

Yes, I think Sezane coats are worth it. Coats can get very expensive, and I think Sezane does a good job of balancing quality and price. I’ve owned several of their coats over the years, and I continue to come back to them for their more classic styles and beautiful fabrics.

What I especially love is that the designs feel timeless without being boring. You’ll often find a beautiful color, interesting buttons, or a slightly vintage-inspired detail that makes the coat feel different. When I’m looking for a new coat, Sezane is still one of the first places I look.
