How to Style a Matching Set

Today I’m sharing some inspiration on how to style a matching set to get you the most use out of your clothes. A matching set is a great way to expand our wardrobe. Nothing is classier than a matching top with a skirt or pants. Wearing a matching set is a chic choice for so many occasions. Wearing them together creates a more polished outfit. But you can also mix and match them. Style them together, or as separates for quick and easy outfits!

First, let’s start with the set itself. You can choose matching pants and a top, however I prefer a matching skirt and top as you likely already have more pants to work with. I chose this dark floral top (love this similar one here) and matching skirt (mine is sold out but this similar style here matches this floral top) to wear as a matching set. I love the neutral floral pattern and early fall vibes this outfit gives. To make this look more like a dress, add a belt to create visual interest at the waist. This also helps to hide the transition from the shirt to the skirt. It also helps to keep your shirt tucked. Overall a belt creates an effortless feeling to the outfit.

Pair the Top with Jeans

The easiest way to mix a matching set is to pair the top with jeans. Whether you choose dark jeans or light, try this season’s flare leg jeans for a more modern update. Despite being a trend, flare jeans help elongate the leg and creates visual length to the body. If flare leg jeans seem a bit too much for you, try wearing bootcut jeans for a similar, yet not as bold look.

I love how the dark rinse of these subtle flare jeans blends with the moody floral vibe of the floral shirt. A button down shirt is a great option as it can easily be worn casually or dressed up. Additionally, a button down shirt it is a great option for work.

Wear the Skirt with a Sweater

Probably my favorite kind of fall look- a midi skirt and sweater! Having a neutral sweater in your closet is a must. There are so many styling options available. Taking apart a matching set will likely require a neutral choice for easy mixing and matching. I’m wearing one of Sezane’s newest sweaters, the Sami jumper. Pairing a skirt and sweater can be done in multiple ways. I love a midi skirt and boots for the fall and winter. Match the Top with Pants

Another way to wear a matching set is to take the top and pair it with pants. Black pants are the easiest option, so here I’m showing you a different color. These brown corduroy pants keeps the outfit warm, and brings in a fall tone. There is a slight brown hue in the floral top. The best no fail way to choose a color of pants, is to take a color that is already in the top. Here, black, brown, beige, even ivory would work.

The versatility of pants makes this a great alternative to wearing jeans. Style this outfit with heels, flats, and even sneakers for a more casual vibe. Regardless of what shoe you choose, you can’t go wrong. Just have fun with it!
