Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket Review: Fit, Sizing & Is It Worth It?

Is the Veronica Beard Miller Jacket really worth the price, especially when it’s made primarily from polyester? In this review, I’m sharing why I think so, and what it comes down to is the fit.

I’ve tried so many less expensive blazers, but it’s surprisingly hard to find one that gets the tailoring right. The Miller fits beautifully through the shoulders, tapers slightly at the waist, and hits at a flattering length, even on my 5’2″ frame. It’s these details that make the difference for me.

It’s also a style that’s been a Veronica Beard bestseller for years. I love that I can wear it with jeans (my favorite), pair it with matching pants for a suit, or throw it over a dress. And the interchangeable dickeys give you even more options, although I often wear mine without one.

I generally prefer natural fabrics, especially at this price point, but I make an exception for the Miller. The fabric has some give to it, and I appreciate that it’s easier to care for than wool.

Here’s my full Veronica Beard Miller Jacket review, including fit, sizing, fabric, and whether I think it’s worth the investment.

My Miller Jacket Buying Advice

  • Best for: Women who love tailored blazers
  • Sizing: I wear my usual size 0, with room for a sweater
  • Worth buying? Yes, particularly for the flattering fit and versatility
  • Consider before buying: The price, polyester content, and additional cost of dickeys

Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket Review: Fit and Sizing

One of the things Veronica Beard does really well is tailoring, and the Miller Dickey Jacket is a perfect example. I’ve tried plenty of blazers that are either too boxy, too long, or don’t fit quite right through the shoulders. The Miller has a much more flattering shape.

It’s structured through the shoulders and gently tapers at the waist, so you get some definition without it feeling too fitted. I also like the length. At 5’2″, I find that longer blazers can overwhelm my frame, but the Miller works with both jeans and dressier pants.

I wear a size 0 in the Miller jacket, which still leaves enough room for a sweater underneath. I recommend taking your usual size. The proportions work well on my petite frame right off the rack. I haven’t needed any alterations either.

Veronica Beard Miller Jacket Review: Fabric and Quality

One thing worth mentioning is that the Miller Jacket is made primarily from polyester. At this price, I’d normally expect more natural fibers. But I also think there’s more to a good blazer than the fabric alone. What I really like about the Miller is that although it’s beautifully structured, the fabric has some give to it. It moves with you rather than feeling stiff or restrictive, which makes it comfortable to wear throughout the day.

And I can speak to how well it holds up. I’ve owned my first Miller Jacket for close to ten years, and it still looks great. There’s no pilling or fading, and it’s maintained its shape beautifully. That’s pretty impressive for something I’ve had in my closet for so long.

Another reason I think it’s worth the investment is how much wear you can get out of it. It’s not a blazer that only works for the office or special occasions. I wear mine casually with jeans, but it looks just as good with dressier pants or over a dress. Add a dickey, and it takes on a completely different look. You can get quite a few outfits out of one jacket.

And while polyester wouldn’t normally be my first choice, it does have some advantages. It’s generally less prone to wrinkling than fabrics like linen, and I find it easier to care for than wool. The Miller is still dry clean only, though, so that’s worth keeping in mind.

Ultimately, I think the value is in the combination of the tailoring, classic style, and versatility. It’s a jacket you can keep wearing year after year rather than something that feels dated after a season.

How Do Veronica Beard Dickeys Work?

One of the things that makes the Miller different from other blazers is Veronica Beard’s interchangeable dickey system. The dickeys zip into the inside of the jacket, giving you the look of another layer without having to wear a full sweater or hoodie underneath. I’m wearing the Upstate wool dickey above and it gives a nice cozy feel without the bulk.

The dickeys are generally sold separately, so that’s an additional expense to consider. But you don’t need one to wear the jacket. In fact, I often prefer mine without a dickey.

I like having the option to change the look of the same blazer, rather than buying several different jackets. If I had to choose which dickey to start with, I’d choose the hoodie. I love how it makes the blazer look more casual, especially with jeans.

How to Style the Veronica Beard Miller Jacket

One of my favorite things about the Miller Jacket is how different it can look depending on whether you wear a dickey. Here are three ways I wear mine.

Miller Jacket Without a Dickey: My Favorite Way to Wear It

I probably wear my Miller Jacket most often without a dickey, usually with jeans and a simple top. I love the contrast of a tailored blazer with something more casual. It’s an easy combination that works for lunch, dinner, or just about anything in between.

Miller Jacket With a Sweater Dickey and Matching Pants

Adding a sweater dickey gives the Miller a completely different look. It gives you that cozy feeling without the bulk of a full sweater underneath.

I especially like the idea of pairing it with coordinating Veronica Beard pants for a suit that doesn’t feel too formal. You can also wear the jacket and pants separately, which makes both pieces more useful. I’m wearing the Arte pants in the photo above, and they fit at just the right length on my 5’2″ frame.

I also shared a review of the Veronica Beard pants and jeans I own, including sizing and fit, if you’re considering a pair.

Miller Jacket With a Hooded Dickey and Jeans

The hooded dickey is one of the things Veronica Beard is known for, and it’s a fun way to make a classic blazer look more casual. Have you ever tried layering a blazer over a sweatshirt? It looks really good, but it’s not always the most comfortable combination. With the hooded dickey, you get that same layered look without the extra bulk. I especially love this look with jeans.

Is the Veronica Beard Miller Jacket Worth It?

So, is the Veronica Beard Miller Jacket worth it? For me, yes. The tailoring is what sets it apart from other blazers I’ve tried. And while I wish the Miller were made with more natural fibers, I haven’t found a less expensive alternative that I like quite as much.

I also think it’s important to consider how often you’ll wear it. If you rarely reach for a blazer, I wouldn’t recommend spending this much on one. But if you love wearing blazers with jeans, pants, and dresses, the Miller is a classic you’ll get plenty of use out of.

It’s expensive, no question. But considering I’ve owned my first Miller Jacket for nearly ten years and still love wearing it, I think it’s been money well spent. And yes, I’d buy it again.
