Wide leg pants and jeans are still a top choice in bottoms this year. While you may think that the wider bottom means you have to wear heels, that’s just not true. There are some factors you want to consider though when deciding what shoes to wear with wide leg pants such as season, pants material, and occasion. Keeping your shoes and material seasonal helps to ensure a cohesive look. For example, wide leg linen pants pairs better with kitten heel sandals than suede pumps. And wide leg wool pants pairs better with tweed loafers or boots than raffia loafers.

The issue most people have with styling wide leg pants is what shoes to pair with them. The proportions can get tricky depending on the length of your pants. Today I’ll be sharing 9 shoes to wear with wide leg pants of all different heights!

Ballet Flats

Always a classic! Ballet flats can in fact be worn with wide leg pants. Just be sure to hem your pants so that they don’t puddle on the floor. Ideally you want the hem to hit at the ankle when pairing with flat shoes. But as they as they are above the ground you are fine. Ballet flats contrast really nice with wide leg pants and add a casual chic look. Add a stripe top to make this look French inspired. For all-season looks go for leather ballet flats, try velvet flats for fall and winter, and go for mesh ballet flats in spring and summer! Pro tip- if you feel the need to look taller, try a pointed toe ballet flat, as they can elongate your look.

Loafers

Loafers are a big trend this year. It’s funny how classics become trends just because more people are wearing and sharing them. Loafers can be a great seasonal shoe to wear with wide leg pants or jeans. Again, I think material is important to keep the look current. Leather is season-less so feel free to invest in quality leather loafers to wear all year around with all of your wide leg pants. I prefer wearing leather or suede loafers in fall and winter (mostly because suede can be hot in the summer) with wool or cotton pants, and wearing lighter raffia or linen loafers in spring and summer with linen and cotton pants.

Heeled loafers are also a great option and look beautiful with wide leg pants. Again, just keep the pants length in mind. If you have a pair of wide leg pants that you love, there’s no harm in buying two pairs. Get one hemmed to wear with flat shoes, and the other to wear with heels.

 

Mid Heel Ankle Boots

Ankle boots were made for wide leg pants! They are the most versatile boot option. The lift you get from the heel really elongates the legs which is especially stunning with a wider cut. If you need extra height, go for it, but a mid heel ankle boot is all you need for a boost. Keep the length of the pants off the floor for a polished look.

Classic Pumps

Classic pumps are the most iconic shoe style! They work with all silhouette styles. From skinny jeans, to straight leg jeans and pants, to wide leg, the classic pump is a timeless choice. With so many heel heights available, you can really customize your look. I personally love a heel around the 2.5″ mark. It’s that sweet spot for comfort and style. Block heels always make me feel more stable. I like having the extra width at the heel. The more substantial heel pairs great with a wider leg silhouette. Gold shoes with everything so it’s a great neutral to choose. I especially love wearing gold shoes around the holidays for an elevated festive look.

 

Sneakers: Can I wear Sneakers with Wide Leg pants?- Yes!

Wearing sneakers with wide leg pants is an option if the length on your pants hem is right. I think the look can get bulky if your pants are too long. Try wearing cropped pants or pants that hit just above the floor when wearing with sneakers. Also, keep the sneakers low profile and simple like this all white pair, or this more neutral pair. Strappy sandals are a summer shoe staple. Whether you choose a flat strappy sandal or a heeled sandal, make sure the hem of your pants is just above the floor. These gold heel sandals are my favorite all occasion shoes. I wear them all the time.
