How To Wear a Cape

Once the first crisp breeze hits the air, I’m ready for cape season. Fall weather usually warrants the need for a light jacket. Nothing too heavy but just enough to layer for cool mornings and evenings, with warm days in between. As a fun and elegant alternative to a classic trench coat, I love wearing Marta Scarampi capes.

Marta Scarampi Fabrics

All Marta Scarampi fabrics are sourced in Italy. The Audrey Deco cape is made from a silk-blend waterproof fabric, made in an Italian mill. The texture is smooth and silky with a slight sheen to the fabric. The color I’m wearing is called Cream, and comes through as a creamy winter white. Just perfect for pairing with Fall’s richer tones. The optional detachable hood has an inner satin lining, as does the cape. Overall, the feeling is luxurious but very wearable, thanks to the waterproof fabric!

Marta Scarampi Sizing

The quality is top notch and sizes are offered in petite, standard, and plus sizes. The sizing is generous due to the nature of cape wearing. It is made to flow and swing with you as you walk. The extra fabric is what makes the cape so appealing. And such a timeless piece that sets you apart from the sea of classic trench coats.

Due to the sizing, this cape (as with all Marta Scarampi capes) can accommodate a light layer underneath, as well as a heavy knit. A true transitional piece. This is an investment for sure, but a piece you will reach for season after season, year after year. Never again worry about what to wear in-between seasons!

How to Style the Cape for Day

Styling a cape is as easy as wearing your favorite jacket. There are no rules, but just have fun with it! I’ve styled this two ways to show you how you can go from day to night in the Audrey Deco cape.

First, for a day out, the cape pairs so well with jeans and sneakers. You can see it’s not too fancy when styled this way. But is elegant, playful, and so unique! Here I’ve paired the Audrey Deco cape with my AG jeans. I love this straight-leg style with the added volume the cape gives. They balance each other out perfectly. Next, I’m wearing my Christy Lynn blouse which I can’t tell you how many times I reach for this. I love it dressed up or down, and is definitely a closet staple of mine and true investment piece!

Jeff Wan Lunch box bag

For the accessories, I’m styling this look with my Italian made bag and sneakers, to compliment the Italian heritage of Marta Scarampi. First up is my Navy Jeff Wan Lunch box tote. This little bag gets so many compliments. It’s designed after a Chinese food takeout box. It’s fun, unique, and made in Italy! Next are my Gucci Ace sneakers. I love pair so much and wear them often (you can read more about them here). They are my “fancy” sneakers that I wear when I’m out and about. Sizing runs large so plan to size down by a half size like I did if you wear socks, or even by a full size! I still have extra room even going down a half size.

How to Style the Cape for Night

For a cool Fall night out, I’m wearing the Audrey Deco cape with black pants and a cami. This look is so elegant and easy. Again, I’m wearing a straighter style on the bottom to compliment the volume of the cape. This pair of pants by Vince is another closet staple of mine. It’s great for a night out, or paired with a chunky knit for day.

My Sarah Flint Perfect Pumps go with so many items. They are a must if you are looking for a pump with good arch support (Get 15% off your first Sarah Flint purchase with code SARAHFLINT-CCTARA1). Finally, I’ve finished this look with a straw bag. I love a textured bag to compliment the fabric of this cape.

Italian fashion brand

I hope I have inspired you to wear your cape from day to night. This beautiful cape by Marta Scarampi is a great transitional layer to carry you through the Fall season, and even into Spring. The light-weight, silk-blend fabric is waterproof and makes a great travel companion.

Marta Scarampi is a slow fashion brand so there is no waste in manufacturing. These made-to-order items are hand-made in Torino Italy. Production begins once your order is placed. Shipping time is very reasonable too!

Marta also makes a beautiful selection of heavier fabric capes. You can read about them in my other post. I hope you enjoy your cape for many years to come!
