The Sunday Musings: October 17th Mentions
Welcome to the Sunday Musings! A quick read to enjoy while you drink your coffee or tea. This post will give you insights on what to read or watch, where to go, new activities to try, and what to wear for the upcoming week! I always love to find inspiration on new things to enjoy. I hope this helps you!
What to Read
I’m a big reader and can go through books pretty quickly. This month I finished reading Surviving Savannah. A true story of the “Titanic of the South”. Taking place in Georgia, it touches upon social class differences, women’s rights, and overcoming loss and tragedy. It’s a great read for those who love a good story that is based on historical fact in a by-gone era.
What to Wear
I’m always making recommendations on what to wear in my regular posts. But for my Sunday Musings, I’m focusing on everyday favorites you can lounge in or respectfully go out in! This week it’s the Nolita Slim Tapered Crop Pants. These pants are great for lounging at home, and are polished enough to wear out and about. I like to wear them at home with my favorite tee, and wear them out with my Grayson button-up shirt (don’t forget, you get $25 off at Grayson with code TARATHORSEN). If you are local, you have probably seen me wearing these pants way too much!
Where to Go
We all have the itch to travel after a year of lock-down. This new hotel is the ultimate way to cure the travel bug. Le Grand Controle is the dream destination for Francophiles everywhere. Imagine being Marie Antionette for a day (or two) and sleeping where she allegedly said “Let them eat cake”? This new hotel is housed within the estate of Versailles. Built in 1681, this elaborate building consists of 14 rooms and suites where you can live out your French fantasies.
Amenities are much more extravagant than just your usual spa and indoor pool. How about a day in the life of Marie Antionette herself? Enjoy your own royal pamper session starting with a private butler, and spa treatment followed by a macaroon tasting. After lunch, choose a costume and have your hair and make-up done like Marie herself. You will even get to make a rose-infused water from the gardens of Versailles. Price upon request, of course! Oh la la!
What to Eat
It’s pumpkin season so I’m very much into pumpkin recipes right now. I absolutely love the food blog site- Detoxinista, and browse it often for recipe inspiration. In fact, I’m a proud subscriber to the site! I made the Pumpkin latte overnight oats the other day, and I will definitely be adding this to my regular breakfast mix. It was delicious. I followed this recipe almost to a tee. I omitted the coffee (1/4 cup) and replaced it with the same amount of almond milk. Since the recipe already called for almond, I just added the extra 1/4 cup that should have been coffee. It tastes like a slice of pumpkin pie! You can find the recipe here (pumpkin latte overnight oats).
New Activities to Try
Looking for someone to teach your kids manners? Or maybe you need to brush up on your etiquette? The darling Mariah Grumet from Old Soul Etiquette is a certified Etiquette instructor who teaches youth and adult etiquette training courses. Mariah’s passion started while taking an etiquette course at The Plaza Hotel in NYC. She is since certified in youth and adult etiquette instruction by Jacqueline Whitemore, founder of The Protocol School of Palm Beach. I became friends with Mariah on instagram, as we are both Sarah Flint brand ambassadors living in the Garden State of NJ. She is definitely an old soul and the sweetest person with the biggest heart!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Sunday Musings. Let me know if there is a topic you would like to see in a future post.
