Mother Jeans Review: The Perfect Fit
As a huge lover of jeans, I know that finding the perfect pair can feel like a daunting task. You need something that combines style and comfort, all while flattering your unique shape. Enter Mother Jeans: a brand that has quickly become a favorite among fashion-forward women. Today I’m sharing a review of the Mother jeans that I own, so that you can decide on the best pair for you.
Jeans can be an investment. But a good one! A great pair of jeans will last you for years, even when the trends come and go. My skinny jeans may be stored away, but with no doubt, they will be back. Plus jeans have become a classic style uniform. They are so versatile and can really be dressed up or down as much as you like. Everyone needs at least one great piar of jeans.
Mother Jeans Review
Founded in 2010, Mother Denim is known for its flattering designs that cater to the modern woman. This L.A. based brand takes inspiration from growing up in California in the 70s. You can see this by the many vintage inspired styles Mother denim offers. They all have this effortless and carefree look.
The name MOTHER is a play on contrast. Meaning unconditional love provided by a nurturing mother, but also means a naughty word. The brands attitude and collections offer a mix of hard and soft. This is how it appeals to so many different styles. They do not take themselves too seriously, but keep a playful and edgy attitude.
Petite-Friendly Denim: Lil Mother Jeans
A new trend among denim brands, is having a petite line (finally!). The Mother jeans petite line is called Lil’ Mother. You will get the same styles and shapes, but made with adjusted petite proportions (for those of us 5’4″ and under). That means the knee placement is higher, and the inseam and rise is shorter. So basically it’s made to hit in all the right places.
While a few of the jeans I’m reviewing are from the Lil Mother petite line, not all of them are. I’ll let you which ones are. But don’t worry if you are not petite, the petite denim line will have the same shape and style as the regular sizing. So you can still see how the styles look.
Most Popular Mother Jeans
When it comes to jeans, the fit is paramount. Mother offers a variety of styles designed to flatter different body types. Here are some popular options that I own:
The Weekender: Flare Leg
The Weekender jeans are the perfect pair of flare leg jeans. They hug the thighs with a stretchy and comfortable fit, while flaring out at the knee. I love how they don’t flare out too much, but just enough to give you some balance and shape. These are mid rise so they sit just below the belly button. This pair I’m wearing is from the Lil’ Mother petite collection. I love how I don’t have to worry about hemming any more!
Flare leg jeans are making a come back. They are very similar to bootcut jean, but with a little more flare. They are versatile enough for both casual outings and dressed-up events. And are my jeans of choice when going out. These Mother Weekender jeans look great with boots and heels. They are a classic yet modern choice for the season! I’m wearing them with this pair of ankle boots that are a must-have for the season!
Here’s where you can the Weekender jeans (swipe left if you are on your phone to see them all):
Mother Tomcat Jeans
If you prefer a more relaxed fit, The Tomcat is a standout in this Mother jeans review. This classic straight leg offers comfort without sacrificing style. They are not fitted down the leg, but instead have a more relaxed fit without being baggy. These are a great choice if slim straight leg jeans are too form fitting for you.
I reach for these again and again. Especially for daytime looks. The Tomcat jeans pair beautifully with everything from sneakers to ankle boots, making it a staple for busy days. Because of the more relaxed leg, this style also looks great with more fitted, or slim tops, and even a simple t-shirt. I love how they look with classic pumps (take 15% off this pair with TARAFHM15)!
Mother Hustler Jeans Review
The Hustler ankle is described by Mother as a high-rise bootcut ankle jean. However, as you can see from my photos, this is more of a classic, slim, straight leg jean. The bootcut is so subtle. The 27.5″ inseam is a little longer on me than it is on their model. This pair I’m wearing is not from the Lil’ Mother collection. You can find the petite version here and here, which has a 25.5″ inseam.
You can style these as as you would straight leg jeans. Because the silhouette is slim, they look best styled with button-up shirts, chunky sweaters, blazers, or anything that is not too fitted. I’m wearing this sleeveless sweater with a detachable scarf. A very chic fall look, or transition to spring outfit. I’m wearing these neutral ankle boots which are quickly selling out (take 15% off with TARAFHM15).
Wide Leg Jeans for Petites
The Rambler jeans that I have are from the Lil’ Mother petite line. I love these! The high-waist combined with the wide straight leg, makes these so modern. There’s lots of stretch in this denim too which makes them very comfortable. They have a slightly relaxed leg and super flattering fit.
Here you can compare the Rambler zip flood jeans with the Lil’ Rambler Floods. The length is 2 inches shorter on the petite jeans. I take my usual size 24 in this style. I would recommend this style to anyone who might not be ready for wide leg jeans but wants that “it girl” look. The wider straight leg gives the illusion of a wide leg jean, but with a slimmer fit down the leg. I also love how they are not tight on the thighs. They even look great with these flat Mary Jane shoes I’m wearing. Overall these are super chic!
Everything You Want to Know About Mother Jeans
Are Mother Jeans Worth the Investment?
As someone who loves casual chic style and is a true denim lover, I think that yes, they are worth the investment. While they come at a higher price point, Mother jeans are all about high-quality fabrics and fit. What makes them stand out is their variety of styles that are modern yet so timeless at the same time. A great pair of jeans is a wardrobe staple, and investing in a pair of Mother jeans means you’ll have a timeless, versatile piece that can be worn season after season.
How Do I Know Which Style Is Best For Me?
Mother offers a variety of fits, from slim straight legs to relaxed wide-leg styles. Consider your body shape and personal style when choosing a pair. If you are petite, the Lil’ Mother line is designed with shorter inseams and adjusted proportions to flatter your frame. For those with a more hourglass shape, styles like the Weekender flare jeans or the Tomcat straight-leg jeans provide a great balance of comfort and structure.
Are They Available In Petite Sizes?
Yes! As I mentioned above, The Lil’ Mother collection is specifically tailored for petite women (5’4″ and under). These jeans offer the same great styles as the regular collection but with adjusted inseams, rises, and knee placements for a better fit on shorter frames. If you’re not petite, you can still enjoy the other Mother denim styles in regular sizing.
What Shoes Pair Best With Mother Jeans?
Mother jeans are incredibly versatile and can be styled with everything from sneakers and ankle boots, to heels and loafers. For a casual look, pair them with flats like loafers or ballet shoes. If you’re looking for something more polished, slip on a pair of pointed-toe pumps or ankle boots. They’re perfect for dressing up or down depending on your mood. For style inspiration, you may want to read my previous post on what shoes to wear with straight leg jeans, and my post on how to style wide leg jeans. How Do They Fit Compared To Other Brands?
Mother jeans tend to run true-to-size, but it’s always a good idea to try them on first if possible, as each style has a slightly different fit. For example, the Weekender flare has a stretchier, more comfortable fit, while the Tomcat has a more relaxed silhouette. I tend to love their high-waist styles for better waist definition.
How Do I Keep Them Looking Great?
You want to take care of your jeans so that they last. After all they are an investment. To maintain the quality and fit of your jeans, wash them inside out in cold water, and lay them flat to dry. Washing your jeans too often can break down the fabric over time. If your jeans feel stiff after drying, toss them in the dryer for a few minutes on a low heat setting to soften them up.
Mother jeans are a perfect blend of style, comfort, and versatility, making them a must for any timeless yet modern wardrobe. I hope you love all the styles featured in this Mother jeans review. Whether you’re dressing up for a night out or keeping it casual, Mother jeans provide the ideal fit for any occasion. Investing in jeans is a great way to build your classic wardrobe. While they may come with a higher price tag, the investment is well worth it for the durability and style that these jeans provide. Overall, Mother jeans are a must-have staple in any wardrobe for those looking to elevate their denim game. I hope you find this review helpful!
