LAKE Pajamas Review: Are They Worth It?

Soft, durable, and consistently comfortable. The brand was founded by Cassandra Cannon and Anne Read Lattimore, who built LAKE around the idea that classic pajamas should feel stylish and comfortable without being fussy.

I’ve worn LAKE Pajamas for years, and in this review I’m sharing what they’re really like. From fabric and fit to sizing, care, and which styles are worth it if you’re considering investing in a set.

It all started with a classic stripe and 100% Peruvian Pima cotton fabric. Peruvian cotton is known for its softness and durability. Plus its breathable, allowing you to feel comfortable whether you are a hot sleeper or a cool sleeper. Pima cotton is a bit like a little luxury that brings comfort and coziness.

While pima cotton is widely used throughout each collection, LAKE has also introduced crisp cotton poplin that is cooling, their Dream knit fabric which is silky in texture, and Turkish cotton robes. All of the fabrics they have chosen to use are light and breathable!

What Is the Softest Material for Pajamas?

If softness is your top priority, 100% pima cotton is one of the softest materials for pajamas. It’s what LAKE is best known for. Pima cotton has longer fibers than regular cotton, which gives it that smooth, almost silky feel without sacrificing breathability.

LAKE’s pima cotton pajamas feel soft from the first wear and continue to get better over time. They’re breathable enough for warm sleepers but still cozy for cooler nights, which is why they work year-round. If you’re choosing your first pair, I always recommend starting with their classic pima cotton sets. They’re comfortable, durable, and the fabric that made LAKE so popular in the first place.

Can I Put My Pajamas in the Dryer?

LAKE recommends that you machine wash your pjs in cold water, and lay flat to dry. This will help keep your pajamas looking fresh and lasting longer. However, if you are like me, I don’t have much time for air drying (unless it’s strictly necessary). I always put my LAKE pajamas in the dryer on low and they have lasted just fine. LAKE does disclose minor shrinkage, mainly in length when machine drying. They do account for this in their sizing. I have not noticed mine shrink but my mom said hers did shrink a bit. So what size should you buy?

*Please note that the summer collection includes a soft gauze fabric. It’s light and dreamy. For this collection, you MUST not put them in the dryer or they will shrink. Please lay these flat to dry. It’s such a beautiful and delicate fabric.

LAKE Pajamas Sizing: What to Know Before Ordering

Overall, Lake pajamas run true to size. They have accounted for the minor shrinkage in the design of the pajamas. I generally wear a size XXS or XS in clothing, and I prefer my LAKE pajamas in a size XS. If you are in-between sizes and like a roomy pajama fit, I would recommend sizing up. Especially if you will be machine drying your pjs.

Based on the several styles that I own, here’s how they fit and what size I would recommend buying:

Pima Sets vs the Pima Crew Sets

You may not notice a difference in these at first glance. The Pima cotton shorts and long sets have a wider and lower neckline. when compared to the Pima cotton crew sets. The Pima Crew sets have a higher neckline. Due to this minor difference, I do find that the pima crew set tops fit smaller all around. So when comparing both, I find that the Pima XS sets fits larger than the Pima Crew XS set (in the top only). I would recommend taking your true sizes in any of the pima cotton sets, and either your true size or next size up in the Crew sets.

Matching Sets

I’m wearing the Pima Cotton Crew Long set in size XS. I find it to be very comfortable. I often like to get the bundle sets that comes with 3 pieces. These bundle sets include shorts, pants, and either a short-sleeve or long-sleeve top. I think it is the best buy since you can have the same matching set in either shorts or long pants. Rather than buying a long set and a short set, a bundle set is a smart option. It makes a great gift idea too!

LAKE often introduces seasonal fabrics and prints. The Hamptons nightgown is made with a dreamy new cotton gauze fabric. It’s so light and airy for summer! This new fabric is perfect for balmy summer nights and packing for your next tropical vacation. Please take care of these pieces. Wash on delicate and lay them flat to dry or else they will shrink!

Lake Pajamas Holiday Collection

LAKE always does a great job with their Holiday collection. It’s full of winter theme prints and traditional holiday colors. The collection always features matching family pjs, plush bathrobes, and some more less traditional but classic winter options. I love their seasonal prints and always look forward to the holiday collection. You can expect chic and minimal styles while still being unique to the season. My two favorite things about LAKE pajamas is how comfortable they are, and the selection of understated but classy designs.

I’ve purchased a few of their holiday prints over the years, and they always release a mix of playful and minimal patterns. If you want something festive but not overly bold, LAKE nails that balance. Their family matching sets also make a great gift because the sizing is consistent across adults and kids.

LAKE Pajamas Robes

This Cozy Robe has replaced my other bathrobes. The robe is nice and plush and a bit thicker for the cold weather season. It’s lined in a soft fleece which makes it extra cozy. This is a seasonal robe that is usually available fall through spring. For warmer climates, they have a lighter Pima Cotton robe. You can get one with or without the scallop details. Personally I love the scallops!

Since first publishing this review, I’ve continued to reach for my LAKE pajamas regularly, and they’ve held up beautifully over time. The fabrics stay soft, the seams hold their shape, and the fit remains consistent. They’re still some of the most stylish and comfortable pajamas in my drawer.

If you are wondering how they compare to Printfresh Pajamas, they are very different. Both brands have beautiful designs. If you love maximalist style and bright prints, you may want to try Printfresh pajamas. For minimal lovers, LAKE is for you.

As for sizing, I find Printfresh to run much roomier and larger than LAKE. The fabric is different as well. While LAKE has several fabrics available, Pima cotton is their main line. Printfresh uses 100% organic cotton but it is not Pima cotton. It does not have the soft feel that LAKE does. Printfresh cotton has more of a crisp feel.
