10 Classy Ways to Style Navy Blue
Today I’m sharing 10 classy ways to style navy blue. When it comes to incorporating navy blue into your wardrobe, finding the perfect color combinations can make all the difference. Navy blue is a versatile and classic hue that pairs well with a wide range of colors, allowing for endless possibilities in creating stylish outfits. It’s surprisingly neutral and universally flattering. You might think of blue as a cool color. But since navy blue is so versatile, you can warm it up by pairing it with warmer tone colors. The best part about navy is that it’s one of those colors that never seem to go out of style. I know that some people find navy hard to style. I’ll show how easy it is to style navy blue and add this color into your wardrobe.
10 Classy Ways to Style Navy Blue
Navy blue is one of my favorite colors to wear. It’s classy, elegant, and timeless. This dark hue can easily elevate your look. Most people gravitate towards black for creating polished looks. But navy blue is the perfect alternative to wearing black. It’s a touch softer and more forgiving on most skin tones. Plus it can be worn with so many different colors. It’s a bit more unexpected than black, and actually easier to style.
What Colors Go With Navy
Navy blue is surprisingly versatile. I do consider it somewhat of a neutral because it can be paired with so many different colors. Here are the best colors that go with navy:
- Brown and tans
- Ivory and white
- Beige
- Burgundy
- Pink
- Red
- Light Blue
- Green
- Gray
- Mustard Yellow
- Orange
How To Style Navy Blue
Navy Blue and Brown Outfit
Navy blue and shades of brown go so well together. Especially for a fall color palette. This color combination is one of my favorite classy ways to style navy blue. The brown is very grounding and gives this outfit an elevated flair to it. Try using brown to break up navy blue monochrome outfits. Use accessories to add a neutral and sophisticated look.
This navy blue skirt and sweater outfit is styled with the brown saddle bag, tan belt, and tan suede boots. Neutral accessories like these should be part of your fall capsule wardrobe staples. They can be worn with every color imaginable. And will polish off so many outfits. I love navy and brown together!
Navy Blue Coat with White Dress: Fall Outfit
Navy blue and white, or ivory, is another classy outfit combination. I love having various pieces of white and ivory in my wardrobe for when I’m wearing a bolder or darker color. Ivory and white instantly brightens up an outfit. When wearing navy and white together, add in your tan accessories to give this a heritage type vibe. Think of classic Ralph Lauren with the rich warm leather offset against a darker and cooler navy. You can wear all navy and white together, however adding in a warm cognac color gives this look a more luxe feel.
Navy and White Stripe Outfit: Spring Style
While adding shades of cognac and tan warm up a navy look, sticking to an all navy and white outfit gives coastal vibes. I love this color combo for spring into summer months. The overall feel is bright and clean. Feel free to add a pop of red accessories or stick to this classic color duo. This striped dress is the perfect example of how to wear navy and white together. You can never go wrong with classic stripes!
Navy Blue and Burgundy Outfit
Quite possibly my favorite color to wear with navy blue, is burgundy! Two rich colors that contrast each other in the classiest way possible. I’ve added burgundy accessories to my outfit for a simple but impactful look. Feel free to add more burgundy to your navy blue outfits. I love navy blue pants with a deep burgundy sweater for fall. Burgundy is a big fall trend, so now is the perfect time to add some burgundy to your wardrobe. The options are endless! Here are my favorite burgundy pieces you can wear with your navy blue pants, navy skirt, or navy jackets.
How to Wear Navy Blue and Pink
Let’s bring it down just a notch. Think of pink as burgundy’s little sister. I love a navy blue and pink color combo! It’s a beautiful contrast when paired together. Think of a traditional nautical navy blue and red color combination. Pink is just a lighter tint of red so it’s a softer pairing. The easiest way to style navy blue and pink together is to take a navy bottom like navy pants or a navy skirt, and pair it with a pink sweater. You can go all navy and pink, but you probably have neutral shoes and accessories in your closet already. So go ahead of wear beige or tan with this color combo. If you stick to the color rule of three (no more than three colors to an outfit), you will be great.
These neutral loafers are my favorite. They are so soft and comfortable, and such a wardrobe staple. I have them in three colors- almond flour (light beige), coconut sugar (cognac), and new cream (an ivory which is a great alternative to wearing sneakers)!
Navy Blue and Red: Nautical Vibes
Red, white and blue is the most iconic color combo for nautical outfits. Just a pop of red is all you need. Try a navy blue tee with jeans and red shoes for a simple but classy way to wear navy. You can go bolder if you love red. Use red as your main color, and style it with navy accessories like navy blue ballet flats, a navy bag, or a navy blue trench coat. You can’t go wrong with this classic color pairing.
Navy Blue and Green Outfit
When talking about color pairing, most often it’s the colors that are on the opposite ends of the color wheel. These will be your most impactful and boldest color matches. But sticking with complementary colors, that is colors next to each other on the color wheel, is soothing. The quiet luxury trend has brought simple and elegant colors to the main focus. Keeping your outfit more understated is not boring, but can be very elegant.
For more understated looks, wear navy blue with shades of sage and olive green. For more of an impact, pair navy blue with Kelly green and emerald. Either way, these are both classy ways to style navy. Here are some of my favorite pieces to add some green.
How to Wear Navy and Black Outfits
Contrary to popular belief, you can wear black and navy together. Since these two colors are very dark, there won’t be much contrast unless you add in a lighter color. The easiest way to wear black and navy together is to add in ivory if you want a softer tone. It’s not as stark as white, but will lighten up the outfit. You can also stick to full navy and black, and break the look up by adding gold or silver accessories like a belt or bold earrings.
Play with different textures like a blue satin silk skirt with a crisp white shirt or cozy knit sweater. Add black suede boots for extra texture (15% off shoes with TARAFHM15).
Navy Blue and Light Blue
Keep it monochrome with shades of blue. Blending the same color together in varying shades makes an elegant look. Here I’m wearing a light blue sweater with navy blue pants, and a blue bag. I’m keeping to the color rule of three but keeping the color family the same. You can actually do this with ANY color.
Navy Blue and Gray
Wearing navy blue with gray is a great winter palette. Especially if you add in some metallic accessories (like these silver Mary Jane shoes) for a dressier holiday look. These two colors are close in shade so they create a more soothing color palette when paired together. Jeans can be considered navy depending on how dark they are. I love a gray sweater vest with dark jeans, and navy blue shoes for a simple and effortless look. Add in navy or gray coat to finish off the look. If you are sticking to the color rule of three, try mixing in a pop of red or pink for an unexpected pop of color. Otherwise try a navy or gray bag.
As you can see, navy blue is such a versatile color. While these are just several examples of classy ways to style navy blue, think of navy as a neutral. Keep the color palette darker for winter months by wearing navy blue with brown, tan, black, olive green, and burgundy. In the warmer months, brighten up your color palette by wearing navy with pink, red, orange, light blue, white, and ivory.
