Business Casual After Working from Home
After over a year of working from home, I’m not quite ready to go back to my business casual attire. I’ll be keeping it simple and comfortable for my transition back to the office. Some of you may be excited to get dressed up again, while others may be having trouble thinking of what to wear. Here are some options for keeping it business casual while still feeling like you are wearing your loungewear!
Comfy Bottoms
When it comes to getting dressed for work, I usually start with the bottoms. Bottom meaning pants or skirt options. I always love a good midi skirt, but for work I often choose pants. Wearing leggings day in and day out this year, may make you think twice about putting on a pair of suit pants. So how do you handle that? Try easy elastic waist pants with a bit of stretch to them. Go for a wide leg or straight leg style so that you don’t look like you are going for a run during your coffee break. Your pants should be well fitted but not tight. If your office allows for it, jeans are great too. Stick with this years straight leg and bootcut jean trend.
I am wearing a favorite pair of black pants from Aritzia. Aritzia always sells out so quick! But I love their pants and own way too many of them in multiple colors. They have an elasticized waist, and a slim leg fit. They are super comfortable and so chic. Plus they are machine washable! Perfect for a business casual outfit.
I also really love the Foster pants by M.M. Lafleur. They are like wearing leggings but look totally work appropriate. Made from an Italian cotton blend, these as comfortable as you can get! The fit is a little more tailored than the Aritzia pants mentioned above, but paired with a sweater or blazer, are totally business casual appropriate.
Light Sweaters
Office temperatures can vary. I like a light knit sweater that I can layer a tank underneath, or throw on a wrap over the top. This camel color cardigan is great because it is oversized, light, and still looks chic. I would size down (I’m wearing a XXS), to get a more flattering fit. Also, a trick that I love- you can wear this Sezane sweater backwards as I have. I prefer the buttons in the back for a more polished look. I’ll wear the buttons in the front for a more relaxed vibe. Two looks in one. Who doesn’t love that?
Here are light knit sweaters that are comfortable enough as wearing a sweatshirt but are polished enough for work. Keep the colors neutral for an effortless chic vibe.
Comfortable Shoes
What to wear on your feet. I love flats for work. Probably because I have a bit of a walk from the parking deck to my office. While flats are always a great option, if you prefer heels, I have to recommend the Sarah Flint Perfect Pumps. They really are perfect. And I’m not saying that because I am a brand ambassador (Get $50 off your first purchase with code- SARAHFLINT-BATARA). Read my Sarah Flint review here. The key for me is the padded arch support. I truly love the way it feels, and am constantly comparing my other heels to them. After years of wearing terrible shoes (in my 20’s), my feet are extra sensitive. I appreciate the arch support, padding, and multiple heel height options. Sometimes you just want or need a kitten heel!
Here are my top shoe choices for work. All are tried and true comfortable!
Classic Jewelry
I always like to keep my jewelry simple at work. Usually just a pair of earrings is fine, but to take the look up a notch, I’ll add a statement necklace like this one from Adler Grier. This woman owned company has the prettiest hand-made pieces! I absolutely love everything I have from them. I’m wearing the Gold Cluster necklace (I also love this simpler version), the Clover Stud earrings, and the 4mm Cluster Bracelet. Use code FHM15 for 15% off your purchase.
