Looking ahead to Spring 2020 trends might have you wondering what is so “new” about it? This season, fashion designers have taken a more practical approach to the season’s latest trends. Normally trends are over-enhanced on the runway and leave you wondering “where am I going to wear that“? This season brings an unexpected yet welcoming take on trends. Practicality. Let’s break-down three Spring 2020 that you probably already own.

The Over-Sized Bag

If 2019 was known as the year of the micro-bag (see my previous post on it here), then 2020 will be the year of the over-sized bag. This Spring, the bigger the better. Yes, ladies, we will once again be carrying our lives around with us.  Get out your giant bags that you put away for a few seasons now. You can thank Daniel Lee of for making 2019’s most coveted over-sized pouch bag. I wrote a post about it (here) with some pretty special dupes. For Spring 2020, he added a handle to the pouch bag, appropriately calling it The Shoulder Pouch. I must tell you that this bag is better in person! The leather is buttery soft and so luxurious. It really is an instant outfit upgrade. Due to the lack of hardware, it is super light too. So don’t worry about stuffing it!

While the size of some of these runway bags are laughable, the idea of carrying a bigger bag is just more practical. I like the idea of having a little extra room with me. You probably already own some sort of oversized tote or hobo bag. If you are looking for an update, here are my favorite picks:

The Knit Dress

You might be thinking, a knit dress is a classic, not a trend right? True, it is a classic silhouette but the maxi knit dress was all over the Spring 2020 runway. Net-a-porter, who is always ahead of the game, has already been stocking a beautiful assortment of just waiting for new homes. It’s a classic, timeless look but will once again be your easy outfit you can rely on. This dress looks just as great with heels as it does with sneakers and a denim jacket! A practical trend that you probably already own! But if you don’t no worries. Here are my favorite picks:

Chain necklace

According to WhoWhatWear, the chain necklace is the only jewelry trend that matters. I bought mine earlier in 2019 knowing that this would continue well into 2020 (see how I wore it here). This is a very 90’s inspired trend which has a heavy influence on Spring 2020 fashion. This bold look adds a sophisticated touch to your outfit. The instant glam factor. Along with the chain necklace, another Spring jewelry trend to note is gold hoops. Another trend you probably already own. Mine are a true throw back to 90’s fashion. These were given to me by my grandmother when I was in high-school. Talk about a true investment classic! Whether you are looking for real gold or faux, here’s are my top picks:

These three Spring 2020 trends are undeniably practical. It’s refreshing to see designers keeping the real woman in mind when designing her clothes. There are not too many opportunities I can think to wear some of the more extravagant pieces that normally come down the runway. But with these 3 trends, anyone can wear them and they are very accessible. With sustainability a hot topic (see my previous post on the topic here), I think we can expect to see more and more designers coming up with clothing that can be re-worn season after season. Gone is the “one and done” days of past.
