How to Update Your Home For Summer

Home decor trends 2019

As summer is approaching, now is the time to clear out and give your home a refreshing update. The windows will be open, the sun will be shining, and the scent of flowers will fill the air. Put away the heavy faux fur throws, the velvet pillows, and the cookie scented candles until next season. This is the perfect time to update your home for summer. Here’s what should be on your list to lighten up, brighten up, and freshen up your home!

Decorating For Summer

Throw pillows

It’s time for the seasonal switch out of your throw pillows. Move over velvet. It’s your turn to hibernate. I want to feel light linen and cotton with fresh colors and prints. Cool, breathable fabrics are so refreshing in the summer heat. Plus the pops of color really do brighten up the mood.

Throw blankets

Throw blankets are always great to have on hand. Sometimes the AC is on too high and it gets a little chilly. Not faux fur chilly (that blanket needs to get put away), but a nice soft cotton to lightly cover your feet will do. Drape them over the sofa, on the back of chair, or keep a few folded in a wicker basket. What a great way to hide a corner or an outlet.

Summer Scented Candles

Candles are an easy way to refresh your home for the seasons. Put away the cookie scents, cinnamon, and even vanilla. Instead, favor fresh flowers and citrus fruit scents. Place a pretty matchbox and candle snuffer close by for added details.

Coffee Table Books

Coffee table books are more for visual impact than anything. They provide an easy way to do a quick seasonal update. Books on florals, travel, and living are where it’s at. Place these on your coffee table, on a console, or on your bookshelf for extra pops of color.

Decorating Your Patio

Let’s not forget about the outdoors. Since more of our time will be spent here, choose some real impactful items that are inspired by your favorite destinations. Bring the vacation feel home! Add colorful outdoor throw pillows, lanterns, and umbrellas for shade.
