There is an art to nautical dressing.  You can quickly go from cool to cutesy if you don’t coordinate right. Nautical dressing is inspired by the ocean, sailing, and ships. It is a classic summer style. Navy blue, white, and red are the traditional colors used. Ocean themes such as fish, lobsters, and anchors can add a fun twist.  Whether it is your accessories, color theme, or pattern that inspires your look, you don’t want to overdo it. Understated is the key to success here.

When selecting your nautical outfit you should consider 3 things.  Where you are wearing the outfit, the comfort, and the overall feel you are going for.  For a simple everyday look, a pair of white jeans shorts and a navy and white top will be comfortable and functional. Add in some red with your shoes, bag or earrings and you have an understated nautical look.

For a fun and playful take on nautical dressing, without getting too carried away, try a fun pattern.  This lobster dress is so playful yet still looks chic when paired with simple accessories.  I love the solid shoes and bag paired with a fun bracelet to add some blue. Balancing pattern and solids are the keys to success here.

Last but certainly not least is my favorite nautical look.  This navy and red dress from Staud is classic and chic. The retro neckline and halter top has that elevated sailor vibe.   focuses on timeless, clean lines. They use high quality fabrics while maintaining accessibility. Function is prominent in the line. This look is easily dressed up or down, and can be taken from day to night. The cotton fabric makes it effortlessly refined and daytime appropriate.  While this dress is simple, it is not boring.  It has an iconic movie star feel while still being wearable for any woman.
