Accessories, you either love them or you hate them.  There are so many options for accessories out there, that it can be overwhelming.  You have shoes, bags, and jewelry.  How do you know what colors and styles to choose from?  And when do you know when enough is enough?  Let’s break it down.

First, think about what type of outfits you normally wear.  Are you a neutral outfit wearer, or do you prefer lots of bold color?  If you are looking to just add a few staples accessories into your wardrobe, I would say that you neutral loving gals should try adding some color into your looks with bold accessories.  A pop of color in your shoes can really make a statement.  The same is true for earrings and bags.  One pop of color is all you need.

Here I chose to brighten up this black and white look with red accessories.  I added the pop with my shoes and earrings.  I kept the bag in the same color family as my outfit so I didn’t look too overdone.  The low chunky heel keeps the look more casual. The straw bag also keeps with the casual feel I was going for.  This outfit could be dressed up by increasing the heel height and swapping out the straw bag for a clutch.

Bring on the color!

For those of you who have a colorful wardrobe, you want to be sure that you have some neutral options in your accessories.  I’m all for mixing colors and adding visual interest with contrast.  If that’s too bold for you, you may want to tone your look down with neutrals.  Neutrals are colors that pretty much go with everything.  Think of black, white, nude, gold, and silver.  When mixing neutrals, I would keep the tones of your accessories in a complimentary color family.

If you want to be daring in your accessories, try some contrast.  A green dress with pink shoes is stunning!  Try it with a gold bag and earrings.  Play around and have fun.  Accessories should be where you are free to experiment and step out of your comfort zone.
